Cook the pumpkin sauce
Add the canned pumpkin, brown sugar, and pumpkin pie spice to a small saucepan over low heat. Cook 6 to 8 minutes, stirring here and there, until the sugar dissolves and it smells like fall. Let it cool a couple minutes, then blend until totally smooth so there's no graininess.

Build the base
Spoon 1/4 cup of the pumpkin sauce into your mug (stash the rest in the fridge for tomorrow's cup). Pour the hot espresso over it and stir until it's glossy and combined.

Warm the milk, then froth it until it's light and fluffy. Pour it over the espresso mixture, letting the foam pile on top. Finish with whipped cream and a little grated nutmeg if you want the full coffee-shop feel.

- 1 cup whole milk
- whipped cream
- ground nutmeg
