Notes & Tips
This is the one that tastes like the holiday drink you pay six bucks for, except you made it in about eight minutes with stuff already in your kitchen. The cocoa-and-coffee base is rich without being heavy, and the peppermint keeps it from turning into straight hot chocolate. Go easy on the extract though — 1/2 teaspoon is the sweet spot; much more and it starts tasting like toothpaste. Want it stronger, swap the brewed coffee for 2-3 shots of espresso. Want it iced, let it cool and pour it over ice. And the crushed candy canes on top aren't optional in my book — that little crunch is the whole point.
