Mix the lime-garlic baste
In a small bowl, stir together the canola oil, finely chopped onion, lime zest, lime juice, and minced garlic.

Broil the salmon
Preheat the broiler. Place the salmon fillets skin side down on a broiler pan. Broil 4 to 6 inches from the heat until the fish just begins to flake easily with a fork, 15 to 20 minutes.

Baste and serve
Brush the fillets frequently with the onion mixture during the last 5 minutes of cooking. Let rest a couple of minutes, then cut into portions and serve.

Notes & Tips
The lime and onion do all the work here, so there's no heavy sauce or breading getting in the way. It's lightly seasoned on purpose, which means leftovers are great flaked cold over a salad or folded into rice the next day.
