Mix the filling
Preheat the oven to 350°F. In a bowl, combine the chopped celery, diced cheddar cheese, drained and flaked tuna, chopped onion, mayonnaise, and salt. Stir until everything is evenly mixed. If it looks a little dry, add a touch more mayo.

Assemble the sandwiches
Spread softened butter over the cut sides of the buns. Divide the tuna mixture evenly over the bun bottoms and replace the tops. Wrap each sandwich snugly in foil.

Bake the foil-wrapped sandwiches until the cheese is fully melted, about 15 minutes. Unwrap carefully — steam builds up in there.
