Brown the beef
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and the half onion, diced, and cook about 10 minutes, stirring and breaking up the beef as it browns. Tip out any excess fat so the sauce doesn't go greasy later. Mince the garlic, add it with the chili powder, season with salt and pepper, and cook another 2 minutes until fragrant.

Build the sauce
Pour in the marinara, chicken broth, and heavy cream. Stir it all together and let it come up to a gentle simmer. This is the whole sauce, right in the pan the beef cooked in. No separate pot.

Cook the gnocchi right in the sauce
Add the gnocchi straight from the package, no pre-boiling. Bring to a boil, then cover and simmer on medium to low-medium for about 5 minutes. The gnocchi cooks in the sauce and thickens it at the same time. Give it a stir once or twice so nothing sticks.

Finish with cheese
Stir in the shredded pepper jack until it melts into the sauce. Pull it off the heat, taste, and adjust with salt, pepper, and a pinch of red pepper flakes if you want some heat. Serve straight from the skillet.
