Instructions
- 1
Build it
Add the bourbon, sweet vermouth, and 2 dashes of Angostura bitters to a mixing glass or shaker filled with ice. Rye works too if you want a little more spice.
- 2
Stir, don't shake
Stir for about 15 seconds until it's good and cold. A Manhattan is spirit-forward and clear, so stirring keeps it silky instead of cloudy.
- 3
Strain and garnish
Strain into a chilled coupe, or over one big ice cube in a rocks glass if you like it colder as you sip. Rub the orange peel around the rim, drop it in, and add the cherry. Sip slow.

Notes & Tips
Three ingredients, zero excuses. This is the drink to make when you want to feel fancy on a Friday without buying out the whole liquor store. The ratio is the whole game here: 2 parts whiskey to 1 part sweet vermouth, a couple dashes of bitters, done. Bourbon makes it a touch smoother and rounder; rye makes it drier and spicier, so pick your fighter. Keep your vermouth in the fridge once it's open, it's wine and it goes flat and sad after a few weeks. Zero-proof version: swap in a non-alcoholic whiskey alternative and a splash of non-alc aperitif, keep the bitters and the cherry, and you've still got that grown-up sipper energy.
