Set up the glass
Fill a Collins or highball glass with ice. Tall and skinny is the move here — you want room for the layers to show off.
- 2
Pour the base
Pour the tequila in first, then the orange juice. Blanco tequila is the best pick — bright and clean, plays nice with citrus. Stop just below the rim so nothing spills.

Make the sunrise
Slowly pour the grenadine over the back of a spoon into the center of the drink. No spoon? Tilt the glass and pour it down the inside. It sinks to the bottom and builds that orange-to-red gradient. Whatever you do, do not stir.

Garnish and serve
Hook an orange slice on the rim and drop in a cherry. Add a straw if you have one — tall glasses love a straw.
